Moving Billboard - making an impact on country roads
Palmerston North is home to one of Australasia's biggest truck-and-trailer units. Costing more than $520,000, the truck is 7.1 metres long, and tows an 11.5m trailer.
"And she's a good-looking truck," Owner Guy Knowles said. "We are very excited to have it."
Mr Knowles, the director of Guy Knowles Transport, has been a truck driver for 30 years and said the new truck cemented his love for his job. The first of its kind, and the only one in Australasia, the Kenworth truck was made in Melbourne and will feature in an Australian calendar next year. The18-wheeler can transport up to 150 cubic metres of product at a time, potentially increasing efficiancy for Guy Knowles Transport, which uses the truck to deliver LawnMaster mowers around the country on behalf of Palmerston North company Steelfort. Mr Knowles said it was no different to driving the other two Kenworth trucks in his fleet.
"You just have to be a bit more careful when motorists try to over-take; they aren't always aware of how long it is."
The size of it had drawn alot of attention, with people often honking their horns and waving. Steelfort sales and marketing manager Gavin Lowndes said he was pleased the company's stock was being transported in an eye-catching truck.
"We have got a moving billboard going from Kaitaia to the Bluff."
